South Maui is Maui Strong

Jan '24 High season in underway in South Maui and have normalized since covid. Restaurants are open and appear to have solved the employee shortage of '23. I would still recommend reservations for the popular restaurants. Mama's Fish House is still a several months out for reservations for example.

One very bright spot is the reef at Hale Pau Hana. After the reef bleaching in 2015, there was definitely an impact of the number and variety of fish, however, I have seen a larger quantity of fish, particularly butterflyfish and

added variety. I saw two small puffer fish, which I had not seen in long time as well a regular eel and a black and white saddled eel. Very encouranging development on the reef. Of course, the turtles

are very present, ignoring the tourists who gawk at them.
